Indian Head Massage, or Champissage, is a wonderfully relaxing therapy based on the ancient Ayurvedic healing system.
It has been practised in India for over a thousand years, orginally by women, who believed that massaging their heads with natural vegetable oils kept their hair healthy and strong.
The traditional Indian Head Massage was restricted to the head and hair but the technique has been extended by Narendra Mehta to include the neck, shoulders and upper arms.
Indian Head Massage is a safe, simple, yet effective therapy that promotes hair growth, provides relief from aches and pains, and is renowned for relieving symptoms of stress.
Indian Head Massage is traditionally carried out whilst you are seated. The treatment begins with upper back and neck massage as you are sat down but comfortably leant forward with your arms resting on the therapy couch and your forehead resting on a pillow.
You are then gently sat upright for the upper arms, scalp, and face to be massaged; pressure points are relieved throughout the entire treatment.
Massage oils (such as Sweet Almond, Grapeseed or Coconut) are most commonly used; essential oils may be added depending on your specific needs and preferrences.

Due to its dynamics I have found that Indian Head Massage lends itself very well to combining a treatment with Reiki.
Clients have reported a deepening of relaxation and a lifting of negative emotions when the 2 therapies are combined.

The head, neck and shoulders are important energy centres within your body.
If you are stressed or angry, tension tends to accumulate.
This tension can later manifest physcially as a stiff neck and shoulders, eye strain and sometimes even hair loss.
Indian Head Massage involves working with a firm and gentle rhythm to help unknot blockages and relieve this uncomfortable build up of tension.
Its effects though are not just physical as it works on an emotional level too; calming the spirit, promoting relaxation and relieving stress.
Indian Head Massage can often assist the individual to get in touch with their own thoughts about the need for self healing; empowering them to ensure their own well-being.
